Drama
Drama is proven to be most successful when it emerges as a natural development from children’s play.It is a fun, creative activity and Drama and allied performing arts are valued in our broader curriculum. Presentations including assemblies, concerts and plays offer all children the opportunity for ‘public performance’.
Successful learning often takes place when young children enjoy themselves in role-playing, which is an important contribution to their oral and aural experience.
Drama – including role-play – is central in developing all major aspects of English in the primary school because:
- It gives children the chance to practise varieties of language in different situations
- It helps children to make sense of different situations and different points of view in role-play and simulations
- It helps children to evaluate choices and dilemmas
- It accustoms children to taking account of their audience and purpose in undertaking an activity.
